Welcome to Cheshire Smart Growth

Some citizens in Cheshire have banded together and formed a new organization called Cheshire Smart Growth in reaction to the proposed mall --sorry lifestyle center -- in their town.  Their website has an excellent pictorial that helps destroy the myths W/S Development has promulgated with their slick PR campaign.

"Lifestyle Center" is simply a comforting buzz word created by marketing flaks to help sell malls to a new generation of Americans.  To many negative connotations associated with the word mall?  Simply call it something else and dress it up a little bit.  If you go to a zoning committee meeting you will even notice that developers use the term "parking fields" instead of "parking lots."  As if we can now park our cars in rolling green fields along side the cows and other furry animals.  Do they really think we are that gullible?  I guess we are since these "lifestyle centers" are springing up all over the place.  However, more organizations like Cheshire Smart Growth are also springing up to show people that malls and sprawl are not inevitable.

Good luck Cheshire Smart Growth!

Cheshire 'lifestyle center' (0.00 / 0)
Amazing how powerful words can be.  There actually are "lifestyle centers" that embrace smart growth - hide the cars, encourage pedestrians and neighborhoods, include residential in same building as retail, etc.

But from what WS Dev't has posted so far, the Cheshire proposal looks conventional, not smart growth...Perhaps W/S will be open to change/compromise/improvement???  Best luck to the Cheshire Smart Growth folks (FYI their website isn't live quite yet).
