1st Annual State-wide Smart Growth Conference

Here are the details for the 1st Annual State-wide Smart Growth Conference:

Wednesday, November 14, 2007
Michel J. Adanti Student Center
Southern Connecticut State University
New Haven, CT
8:30 am - 4:00 p.m

The keynote speaker will be Lee Sobel. Mr. Sobel is a Real Estate Development and Finance Analyst in the US EPA's Development, Community & Environment Division (the Smart Growth program). His work includes technical assistance, outreach, education, research and policy related to real estate development that achieves smart growth goals and outcomes. He will talk to us about smart growth's bottom line.

Jeff Blodgett, researcher at the Connecticut Economic Resource Center, will give us an update of the state's economy.

There will be 14 interactive workshops, including:

o  Connecting the Dots: economic, community, and human development in Connecticut - Jim Horan, CAHS,

o  Development and the Tax Structure - Jim McElfish, Environmental Law Institute & Jim Finley, Connecticut Conference of Municipalities,

o  Case studies of smart growth in big and small towns - BL Companies and Jonathan Rose Companies,

o  Economic Development Incentives and Land Use - a study of three states - Greg LeRoy, Good Jobs First,

o  Sprawl Who Says So? - the data: who collects it & how it's analyzed - Jeff Blodgett, CERC,

o  Density and Design - Robert Orr, Robert Orr Associates,

o  Making Brownfields Better - Stephen Sasala, Waterbury Regional Chamber and Arthur Bogen, Down to Earth Consulting.
